It's time for this week's Tell All Tuesday! This is one of my favorite link ups hosted my My Day in K and Teach Talk Inspire! It has been so fun reading and learning about all of you! This week's link up is the Top Ten things teaching has taught us Letterman style! I always loved his top ten lists!!!
Number 10-I spend a lot of time in the floor and with little kiddos being comfortable is important! Flats and maxis are my best teaching friends!
Number 9-Training your bladder...We all know you can't leave a room of angels to run to the bathroom anytime you want! You know when you get back one of them will be hanging from the ceiling and another one will be rolling on the floor and you'll be lucky if that's all that happens!!
Number 8- Only teachers can speak each others language! People who are not in education do not know what we do. They don't understand our target dollar spot addiction or the fact that we spend days and sometimes weeks in the summer to set up our classrooms.
Number 7- Classroom management is the key to learning in your classroom! Once a child has learned to control their body then they are ready to learn. It is just as important to teach rules and procedures as it is to teach reading and writing maybe even more so!
Number 6- Those kiddos in your classroom that act out in a variety of ways are often those kids who need the most love from you. They just have a difficult time expressing that! It is important to connect with them and find out what makes them tick!
Number 5- Plan, plan, plan and when you think you are planned plan some more! Things you think will take forever they will finish before you can sit down at your teacher table and things you think will take them a short amount of time will take them forever! Somethings will go beautifully and somethings will bomb badly! Always have a backup plan!!!
Number 4- Caffeine is and important part of your day! I have a poster in my classroom that says "This classroom runs on lots of love and Diet Pepsi"!
Number 3- Learning is important it is why children go to school but it should also be fun! Getting the kiddos involved in planning will help them take ownership and enjoy the process!
Number 2- Loving what you do will make all the difference. Let's face it there are days when you leave school dreading having to go back the next day! A difficult day or class can make our jobs hard but if we truly love teaching we will get up the next day and go right back to work:)
Number 1- the most important thing I have learned from teaching is that my kiddos usually teach me way more than I teach them. Children are pretty amazing and are the reason we teach:)
Thank you so much for stopping by to read my Top Ten List! Head on over to My Day in K to link up and join in on the fun!
I love your list - i'm in agreement with them all! Especially the need for caffeine.. I'm feeling it already and the back to school planning has just begun.

Can I just second everything on your list?? Especially the train your bladder and caffeine! Thank goodness the gas station with 44 oz Dr Pepper is on my way to school ;)
ReplyDeleteYour #6 was the one that rung true for me this past year. I had a little boy that took a lot of my time because he needed so much attention and, I'm sure, love. Also, yes, the shoes! Gotta have good shoes! Great post! I love visiting the blogs of other Wibbiteers!

Love your top 10 list!!! I agree completely with all them! Especially #10...uncomfortable shoes/clothes make for a longggg day of teaching!

Hi Jill! I love your list and your new blog design! I agree with all of your points, especially that you can NEVER have enough caffeine! Of course, number 10 also such a sweet and true statement. Thanks for linking up with us!

Love it! You hit everything right on the dot! I need my caffeine like nobody's business!! You know it might be a problem when your kids ask you if you had your Dr. Pepper yet. :) # 5 is one of my faves!

Hey, Jill!
ReplyDeleteYou have some good stuff here. #8 is the truest of all truths. And #4, sometimes I take a "shot" of diet coke before I leave the house just to get me going :)

This list is perfect! :) #8!!!! I tend to lay everything on my boyfriend...and he has no idea what I talk about 90% of the time! # 3 is my favorite though!! If you do what you love then work will NEVER feel like work! :)

Love you list, I have #6 on my list too...almost verbatim. Those tough kids sure do need us the most--that's often where my caffeine comes into play! Love your blog and to see how much of our Top 10 we have in common!

Jill, your list is great! I love "love what you do, and do what you love" so true! Caffeine is certainly your best friend and I am a firm believer that you can never be too prepared. Especially those first few months when each activity can only last about 5-10 minutes. ;) I love your blog design. Thanks for linking up with us! :)
